Hey Mom,
sorry i didnt write too much last week.
i dont think i hit my head hard enough to have a concussion. the mission doctor came and checked me out before i got stitched up so i guess he checked me out. i remember him and the doctor who stitched me up checking me to see if i could follow their finger and squeeze thier hands and stuff like that. im good. stitches are already out on the outside and the internal ones disolve. i was perfectly lucid except when i was passed out. i dont think that there is anything to worry about.
dont worry about the cards. i dont want you guys to worry about me too awful much. im doing just fine out here. discouraged and impatient are two different things and i am impatient with things down here. still not the best but im sure not going to ever give up like someone who is discouraged. also im pretty tired of training. Elder Catanach is grinding on me pretty badly. ill get through it but ill be happy for a transfer. i always thought that i would get someone who was excited to learn and Elder Catanach doesnt like me, being out here, talking about anything except for rap music, new mexico, or girls. so im ready to be transferred.
conference was nice. it was a restful day. henry got to watch all of sunday sessions on a laptop that he got his daughter to bring up for him. most of the elders already knew about my stitches. for announcements that district meeting right after i announced to the Elders that i had 19 stitches in and had recieved an award for being the toughest looking district leader in the mission. i was that day because my eye socket was pretty swollen.
i really enjoyed Elder Holland's talk because it was so powerful. i also enjoyed President Monson's. i felt like the Church leaders main points were expressing love and service, seeking and following the Spirit, and maintaining the points of doctrine that our Church disagrees with other churches on.
i made a bunch of muffins for everyone that was there but just like last time they ate hardly any of it. i guess i wont try that again.
i realize that my area is more difficult than some missions but i really feel like i can teach as much as they do anyway. taught henry a few times this week. sometimes it is difficult to think of things to do with him. he knows a ton. he really enjoyed Conference.
we saw greg on sunday and had a good talk with him and we are teaching him again tonight. we are going to teach him the Plan of Salvation.
the sammons should finally be able to start being taught regularly. thier oldest son got married this weekend. we have a big lesson with them tommorow. experience has taught me not to get excited every time someone seems receptive to meeting with us because rarely does it progress very far. this week twice we taught restoration lessons to people for the first time and for the return appointment they dropped us.
we have some good prospects from part member families that ill talk about later if they pan out at all. i guess no matter how difficult the work has been i have always had a companion that was on my side. i dont have that right now so im sorry if i have not seemed as excited. rest assured that i will be just fine and come out on top in the end. im just not enjoying this trial as much as i have the others.
that is really interesting about the Elders who died in israel. i have been blessed to see some success in my mission. i may have only baptized Paige so far but i have seen several people know that what we say is true and make thier own choices.
Hey Mom, did you ever get those last pictures to Dad? just wondering. i really miss you and appreciate everything that you do for me, Mom. i look forward to when i can be with you and everyone else again. i always feel lucky that i have a Mom that cares about me as much as i know that you do. one of my first thoughts when i realized what had happened after i passed out was that i hoped that i could figure out how to keep you from worrying too much. Love you Mom.
ill get you some pics soon. to be honest Elder Gibbons accidently erased alot of them so i didnt have any to send for awhile. there arent many people that know how to have a good time working hard like he does.
Grandma: i hope everyone isnt too worried. im doing just fine. ill try to take care of myself enough to where i dont get sick.
Elder Holland's talk was amazing. i was thinking about Nephi in 3 Nephi where it says that nobody could disbelieve his words because of the power that he had. i thought that Conference was interesting because of the common themes throughout the talks. i also really enjoyed President Monson's talk because he always talks to the kids. i really admire that about him.
i hope that everything goes well with the birth of Will. im glad that all my cousins are having fun in their activities. i think about them alot. hope you have a good week.
Grandpa: Conference is a good time to relax and just enjoy. being in the world can wear a missionary down sometimes and it is always great to be with those who can relate to you and support you. listening to the Church leaders and being with the other missionaries was a really enjoyable experience for me. i look forward to being able to go to sonic with you following priesthood. i always think about people at home. being away helps me to appreciate the great family that i have.
Love your favorite missionary,
Elder Taylor Barron

this came from mom- but i'm reposting since it never made the comments page...???
Hey Sweetie Elder, Hope you are feeling better by the time you read this. I guess we all have weeks that are not the best and it sounds like you've had a few. I've certainly been impressed that it's only been a few. You are doing really well and handling things just fine. I believe that the rewards will come.
You are right that you have a great family and we all love and support you 100%! Henry sounds like a very good man and I hope things continue to work out for him.
I think that many of the people who start missionary discussions and are excited, get discouraged when they find out how much effort it requires to be a good member of our church. They are shortsighted in that they cannot see the amazing blessings that will come to them. I had several friends that investigated the church when I did and I don't think any ever joined. A few came to church for quite awhile.
But then there are those who are actively seeking for themselves. Like me they don't know exactly what they are looking for but when they find it--they recognize it. And they are golden.
I am praying that the things you worry about will be solved and that you will be able to do your missionary work the way you want to.
Please take care, get enough rest and food and know we are cheering for you back here!
Love you, Grandma Sue
