the couple outside in the dark is the wells family who went with us to lots of lessons and sis wells did our dinner calender for us. i thanked her often and owe her alot. she would always have us over or give us money on the few days that nobody signed up.
the family with lots of tries to get a good picture is the smiths. we taught cade (the younger boy) the lessons before his baptism. they said they would send me some ties and a tuna sandwich to remember them.
tay just goofing off...and...
the picture of me in the white shirt is me after finishing packing at like 1 or 2 in the morning. try to notice the sheer exhaustion.
Hi Mom,
oh, its been a little bit of a tougher week this week but i think we will come out alright.
for school i think i would just like to take a semester at uvu when i get back. Elder Haupt will be there and ill be close to him and everybody that i will know that is going to byu. also we wont have to mess with applying. so i dont know how early you have to apply for that but if that is an option i would just like to start there.
you have to teach gospel doctrine?
Elder Gibbons and i taught gospel essentials this week. i mentioned to the ward mission leader that the class was going into too much deep doctrine and so he wanted us to give the teachers an example. they just dont know how to put a question aside until later. so the week before one of the teachers said a bit more about temples and heavenly mother than i was comfortable with our investigators hearing. i wish we could just teach it every week. the members know what they are talking about but cant seem to focus on simple things.
thats funny that you are staggering the pictures for me lol! i guess the fam prolly likes that better than all at once?
so its about chris er* that we need to get his schedule changed. last i heard he had an interview and we havent heard from him for a few days which is a little odd. and he didnt make it to church so he would be a good one to pray for. we havent seen his car though so it might just be that he is busy. henry is still doing well as far as i know. i was on exchange the day that his main lesson was. supposedly it was as good as last week. we will see him tommorow.
we are teaching paige and hopefully her younger sister on thursday, they are back from vacation. chris el** who has been investigating for 3+ years but cant get baptized because of a live in girlfriend has commited to meet with the bishop and his girlfriend and see what they can work out next sunday.
last tuesday night we were panicking a bit because all of our investigators are out of town and we were trying to get one more lesson to get our daily standards and we had a cool experience. we were walking to dan's around 9 and we ran into a former investigator that stopped investigating because our ward mission leader offended her. we talked to her for awhile and then we set an appointment with her that we will have tommorow. so thats a new investigator coming up.
we have started to teach the missionary lessons to the members per my district leader's suggestion. we set appointments yesterday with a couple families and they both said that they would have nonmembers there. maybe this is how we get referrals... i was hoping there was some kind of formula.
we might have to drop dan because he wont keep any more commitments. i only hesitate because he is actively trying to read the whole Book of Mormon.
had zone conference on friday. it was all on the importance of asking good questions in accordance with what Elder Bednar said. we also talked about area book keeping and nightly planning. i got to sit with President and Sister Brady at lunch and it was really neat to talk with them. Elder Haupt and his companion were with us too and we had a great conversation about what they spend their time doing and what they like about the mission and stuff like that. something i thought was really cool was that they said that they never have time to write talks. in two stake conferences i have seen them speak and they are fantastic speakers. President Brady gave us some advice in scripture study as well. he knows EVERYTHING. at the end of the conference he taught us some things about the sacrament. one of the things i like about how he teaches is that it is always simple and yet profound as well. every time he speaks i wonder why i have never seen the things he talks about before. thats about it for this week. we got lots of investigators that are difficult to see because of summer so we end up doing alot of finding which didnt yield a ton this week.
Have a good week.
to grandma:
im excited to get your package. i dont know how soon that will be though. we just had zone conference this week. hope you have a good week. praying for us to find new investigators is deffinatley a good thing. should have a few new regulars by next week.
to grandpa:
i think i had the edge on the package war as well. Elder Haupt and i had some fun baking that cake for cade. he was a member kid in Foothill who we taught the lessons to before he got baptized. Elder Haupt has got me into baking the premixed cakes and muffins. i usually bake something once a week or so. its a good way to relaxe. i would love to bake a cake for you when i get home. it is deffinately true what you said about needing to live the principles of the gospel before you learn them. that in my opinion is why some people who hear all the missionary lessons dont get baptized is because they havent applied what they learn. in zone conference this week we talked about asking good questions to our investigators and one good reason to do it is so that we can help them realize what they need to do with what they learn. thats a great thought.
to rochelle:
we usually go tracting almost every day. not always for very long, usually tracting is a back up plan. some days though we end up with 5 or 6 hours some how. on average we give away about 10 books a month but we dont just hand them out. usually we teach someone before we give them a book of Mormon.
Love your favorite missionary,
Elder Taylor Barron

Hey Elder!
As always, it's great to read your emails. We love hearing about all that you are doing, and we are loving all the pictures too! Summer has been really busy here. The kids have been involved in lots of things that keep me running. I'll make sure they get a letter off to you soon to fill you in. It was so nice to see your mom too. It's always a highlight of my summer!
I was laughing at your comments about Gospel essentials. When I served as a Ward missionary, I remember thinking the exact same thing when we would have someone come who really needed to hear the basics. Our teachers were mostly very good, but it happened a couple of times.
Also, I gotta say that I'm excited that you'll be coming to UVU to start off college after your mission. It will be great to have you around! I know it's still a ways off, but I'll look forward to that!
We will continue to keep you and your investigators in our prayers. You are sure doing an awesome job. Love you and take care!
Hey Elder, I wanted to make sure I sent you a message this week because we will be out of town the next couple of weeks and I don't know if we'll have internet access. We are leaving for Alaska on this Thursday and will be back on Friday, the 31st. Then Grandpa will go to BYU Hawaii to do some work and I will go to North Carolina to visit family and friends out there while he is gone.
The friends in NC are the same ones that came to stay with me here. I look forward to seeing them and hopefully share the gospel with them some more too. The trip to Alaska is pure pleasure.
Like Dani, I would love for you to be around here when you get back. We would take good care of you and your friends :-). You could bring them over for home cooking!
I love how positive you are about your daily efforts out there. I know Heavenly Father must love that! There are a lot of ups and downs I'm sure, but you seem to take them all in stride. I'm so grateful too that you have wonderful companions and others working with you.
Let me know if you got the little package that I sent you. I know it was at the mission home a week ago today so it will be interesting to hear how soon it got to you. If there is ever anything you need, that we can help with, please let us know.
We love you so much and are so pleased with the awesome missionary you have become!
Love, Grandma Sue
